Will 2013 Be The Tipping Point For Social Business Innovation?

Forbes1The confetti has long since been swept up, and the whirring of commerce has fully begun again as we settle into the New Year. 2013 is promising (yet again) to be the year of social business innovation and change.

Will this be the year that social business becomes fully integrated and mainstream?

Dion Hinchcliffe, the Chief Strategy Officer at Dachis Group, seems to think so – it’s listed prominently throughout his social enterprise predictions for 2013.

Or consider the recent article I co-authored with Kare Anderson. With news outlets like Forbes and The Huffington Post carrying articles such as these to the business masses, can meaningful reconciliation of business processes and social tools be far behind?

IBM thinks so, stating that the social enterprise is, “simply the reality of the business world today.” And they are not alone in their aggressive push for social business as the future of work.

Mark Fidelman rang in 2013 with BusinessNext, a well-attended gathering of social business experts and practitioners. While Brian Solis announced the next season of Revolution, touting an all-star cast and a focus on (you guessed it) social business.

The only thing missing appears to be an Oprah interview.

Social Business Successes and Challenges

Whether or not this is the year of social business, I think it is important to acknowledge how far this movement has come as well as recognize all of the groundwork that has been laid to ensure its perpetual motion.

Over the next few months, I will be researching companies, and interviewing practitioners — people like you — about their social business journey. I am interested in two things: highlighting successes and bringing renewed focus and attention to the challenges that still remain.

Do you have something to add?

If you would like to be included in these interviews, please just leave a comment below. I’d be happy to showcase your social business success or help further research and investigate the challenges you may be experiencing. Social business is a journey.

Let’s explore together.
